Dr. Eelkman Rooda is associated with the Erasmus MC / Sophia Children’s hospital and the Prinses Máxima Centrum. His work primarily focuses on providing the best possible care for children with tumors in the central nervous system and congenital (spinal) dysraphisms.
He has initiated a trial using deep brain stimulation to treat children with intractable epilepsy, targeting the cerebellum as the remote control of the brain. This work built upon his PhD, which focused on fundamental neuroscientific research in mice with intractable epilepsy. He is passionate about providing the best possible care for children with brain tumors. Additionally, he collaborates with experts in spinal disorders to improve surgical techniques and outcomes for young patients with spinal conditions. His dedication to advancing neurosurgical treatments underscores his commitment to enhancing the lives of children affected by brain and spinal disorders. The power of microneurosurgical skills is well demonstrated in both these areas of expertise and is essential to enhance the outcomes for our young patients. His commitment to advancing neurosurgical treatments ensures that children receive the best possible care, benefiting from the delicate and microneurosurgical most minimally invasive approach.
